The outer (prepolishing) ring of this lap is cast Zinc, which performs like the Zinc Plus prepolishing lap. This offers a very firm surface and grip on the diamond, producing a very fast, crisp prepolishing action.
The inner (polishing) ring of this lap is the famous BA5T alloy that holds a diamond charge really well and produces a rapid polish with flat facets and crisp meets – which is why many competition faceters use it.
This lap works great with our line of Voodoo Magic Polishes and pre-polishing compounds.
This lap is recommended for rapid repair or production cutting of harder stones. It’s ideal for working with spinel, corundum, chrysoberyl, etc.
This lap is not recommended for softer or delicate stones.
Double-charged laps are not for beginners.
Protips:
The polishing portion of this lap can, with pressure and speed, cause heat to build very rapidly. This can melt your dop wax, or release your CA or even epoxy, causing your stone to shift or even fall off the dop. Keep one finger in contact with the stone at all times to monitor for heat build-up – and moderate your speed and pressure.
