Frank and Julie met while working in Indonesia. After marriage, the two found that spending time in the deserts of Arizona spiked their interests in prospecting and rock hounding. Very quickly they discovered that their hands-on careers transferred into hands-on creativity with lapidary, wire-wrapping, silversmithing, and ultimately for Frank, with gemstone faceting.
Together, Frank and Julie completed a course in silversmithing at the Mesa Academy of Arts. Frank is a graduate of many Lapidary Art programs, including ones from the Arizona Mineral and Mining Museum. To hone his stone-cutting skills, Frank has completed multiple courses at the International Faceting Academy and continues to explore new and better ways to fashion each stone to enhance and showcase its inherent beauty.
The passion of the Umbergers is readily apparent in the unique pieces of jewelry that they co-create. Frank’s beautifully cut stones feature in the silver rings and pendants that the couple design together. Frank’s work is regularly displayed at galleries and show events from British Columbia, Canada, to Tucson, Arizona.
A special collection prepared for Tucson, 2017. You may view and purchase items from this collection at booths A13-A15 in the 22nd St Show in Tucson.
